Urban and Regional Planning pertains to the concept of wisely utilizing the available space for urban development that hinges on the physical layout, its economic and social impacts in the urban environment, as well as the allotment and location of feasible activities within the area. The concept of urban planning handles both the development of open lands, as well as the rehabilitation and revitalization of existing portions of the city. As such, the process is heavily dependent on setting concrete, achievable goals, public consultations, design drafting, strategic planning, and the collection of data and analysis.

In the present context, the Philippines is viewed to be one of the most rapidly urbanizing countries in the world, with over 60 percent of the population living in urban cities. Given this, as the country is urbanizing, new economic implications and opportunities arise, but also negative impacts such as rising poverty rates, constraints to housing allocations, and environmental damages, among others would also surface. Lastly, despite the efforts and motivations towards the adoption and implementation of strategic urban planning approaches, the local government units (LGUs) simply don't have the capacity to accommodate such an extensive venture.

In line with this, the ECCP is hosting this event, "Urban and Regional Planning: Vital Role Towards Economic Growth" on 24 February 2023 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM via Zoom. The event aims to discuss and explain the concept and framework of urban and regional planning, the role it plays towards economic growth, and the current challenges and issues of urban and regional planning in order to help the participants to have a better understanding of the concept of urban planning and guide them in the strategic and proper implementation of it.
